The Paulo Sarasate Public Dam, better known as the Araras reservoir, is a Brazilian reservoir located in the municipality of Varjota, in the state of Ceará, approximately 250 km from the city of Fortaleza. It is built on the bed of the Acaraú river between the municipalities of Varjota, Pires Ferreira, Hidrolândia and Santa Quitéria. Located in the northwestern portion of Ceará, the Araras dam is a source of wealth for the cities and towns located on its banks, thanks to fish, irrigated and low-water agriculture, and the supply of drinking water, in addition to being a tourist attraction, especially on the occasion of the "bleeding" of its waters, creating a spectacle of rare beauty with the formation of waterfalls.
