After the polar bear, the brown bear is the largest of its kind. The weight of an adult (males are generally heavier than females) ranges from 250 to 500 kg, also reaching a maximum height of 3m, in the bipedal form. It is one of the largest land animals, second only to the Elephant and Polar Bear. Diet significantly influences weight; the bears of the Kodiak Islands feed on salmon and reach an average of 500 kg, while the grizzly bears, which live far from the coast and feed mainly on berries, reach only 350 kg.
