This live camera sits on an island in Lake Onalaska, in the heart of the Mississippi River's Driftless Area, inside the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge near Brice Prairie, Wisconsin. The refuge protects about 240,000 acres of floodplain along 261 river miles and is one of North America's great migratory bird flyways. On screen you can see bald eagles, American white pelicans, sandhill cranes, Caspian terns, cormorants and many species of ducks, gulls and other waterfowl, which gather in large flocks during migration. The high-resolution camera came from a partnership between the Raptor Resource Project, the refuge, the Brice Prairie Conservation Association and explore.org; volunteers ferried poles, solar panels and equipment to the island by boat to install it.
