Bryant Park is a 400,000 square foot privately managed park located in Manhattan, New York. It is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and between 40th and 42nd Streets in Midtown Manhattan. Although technically located within the park, the main branch of the New York Public Library effectively forms the functional eastern boundary of the park, making Sixth Avenue the main entrance to the park. Bryant Park sits entirely on an underground structure that houses the library's book stacks, which were built in the 1980s when the park was closed to the public and excavations took place. New library facilities were built underground, while the park above was restored.
