This live camera shows the Sundhnúkar crater row near Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland. Reykjanes is now one of the most closely monitored areas in the country: after centuries without eruptions, the peninsula became active again in March 2021 with the Fagradalsfjall eruption, and from late 2023 a series of fissure eruptions opened right in the Sundhnúkar area, with lava flows and fire fountains that forced the evacuation of the town of Grindavík. The camera is a way to follow in real time the lava-field landscape, the opening of new fissures when there is activity and the changes to the terrain. Between eruptions the stream shows Iceland's typical volcanic scenery, fast-changing weather and, on winter nights, the chance of seeing the northern lights. The stream is provided by Live From Iceland.
