Vienna is the capital of Austria and one of nine Austrian states. With more than 1.8 million inhabitants, according to Eurostat data in 2013, it is the most populous city in Austria, with 2.6 million inhabitants in its metropolitan area - which is equivalent to about a quarter of the country's total population.
