Barra da Tijuca beach is the main beach in the region and extends along Avenida Sernambetiba to Recreio dos Bandeirantes. It is the largest beach in the state of Rio de Janeiro, eighteen kilometers long. From Avenida Ayrton Senna, the beach does not have a boardwalk, as it is an environmentally preserved region. It has strong, tubular waves that are very good for surfing and bodyboarding.
