Trace Urban is the urban music channel of the French Trace group, playing videos of hip-hop, R&B, rap, dancehall and the sounds ruling the charts and social media, aimed at viewers aged 15 to 34. Between videos come interviews with artists promoting new albums or tours, in segments such as Fact Check and Skip Skip.
It is the flagship of a family of channels that includes Trace Brasil, Trace Latina, Trace Africa, Trace Gospel and Trace Caribbean, among others, and reaches more than 60 countries. If you follow rap and urban culture from the US, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean, it is a soundtrack that runs all day.
The story began in 1994 as MCM Africa, a spin-off of France's MCM. In 2002 it was bought by Olivier Laouchez, former head of the hip-hop label Secteur Ä, and in April 2003 it became Trace TV, the first international channel devoted to urban music. It took the name Trace Urban on 15 December 2010 and is based in Clichy, on the edge of Paris.
