The first Community Channels to be installed in the country were those in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte. All of these were founded in the second half of the 1990s. TVCOM Maceió was founded on October 18, 2001 after BigTV Maceió (currently owned by NET) started operating, with the participation of 32 organizations from organized civil society. . Among the supporters for the creation, implementation, installation and operation of the first cable TV channel to operate in Alagoas, TVCOM Maceió, we count on the fundamental collaboration and cooperation of engineer Marcelo Monteiro Florêncio, at the time president of the Union of Alagoas urban planners. Unfortunately, Marcelo Florêncio died months before TVCOM Maceió aired. As a fair tribute, the name of the TVCOM Maceió studio was named after him. Despite all the technical and financial difficulties that it has gone through, TVCOM Maceió has never abandoned its commitment to the struggle for the democratization of communication. And today, when its digitization process takes place, we are sure that this commitment is as alive as it was at the time of its foundation.
