Televen is one of Venezuela's major free-to-air networks, based in Caracas. Its schedule is all about variety: several daily editions of the newscast El Noticiero, La Bomba, the magazine Vitrina Hoy, the sports show Teledeportes and Bono de Noche, plus telenovelas and foreign series.
Teledeportes is one of the network's oldest shows, launched just months after the channel itself in 1988. Today Televen's main rival is Venevisión. In the United States the network has its own feed, Televen América, and the Televen Play platform collects programmes to watch on demand.
Founded by Omar Camero, Televen went on air on 3 July 1988 on channel 10 in Caracas, covering only the metropolitan area at first, and reached the whole country during the 1990s. On 27 November 1992, during an attempted coup, it was the only channel that stayed on air. Its current motto is "Está en todo". A good way to get to know everyday Venezuelan television.
