TV Meio Norte is a commercial television network based in Teresina, the capital of the state of Piauí in north-eastern Brazil. Its schedule is built around regional journalism in Portuguese, from the early-morning Bom Dia Meio Norte, hosted by Helder Felipe, to the afternoon news programme Agora Brasil, where Amadeu Campos leads a panel of journalists and political analysts.
Crime and community reporting has a big place on the channel: Ronda do Povão, with Wellington Alencar, and Patrulha, with Luiz Fortes, follow the cases that make headlines in Teresina and across the state. Programa da Tarde, presented by Karla Berger and Mariza Holanda, brings a lighter mix of stories and celebrity news, while Ciência Política, with Ananias Ribeiro, breaks down state politics.
The network was born on 1 January 2011, when the original TV Meio Norte left the Band network to become independent under businessman Paulo Guimarães. It is a good window onto everyday life in a region of Brazil that rarely reaches international screens, and a simple way for people from Piauí living abroad to keep up with news from home.
